FIREARMS The Magpul PMAG GEN M3 magazine is not compatible with GROT. Year ago situation was the same and nothing had changed. Not a clever move as its popularity is rapidly growing and it was recently adopted as a standard rifle maga- zine by US Marine Corps. Soon it might be a gold standard in the other services. And you can't feed GROT from it. Handguard. As for the short M-LOK handguard, the one in the GROT rifle is surprisingly heavy. Probably because of its thickness. Stock. Too short. Even when extended to last position, the stock in GROT is definitely short- er than in AR rifles. For a 6' 2" guy with long arms, shooting is uncomfortable. Think MP5. Maybe when the rifle is used with full gear, the additional layer created by the plate carrier and armor, fills the gap, but that's a sport rifle. And most civilian shooters is using their rifles with- out so much gear on them. And you have that weird wobbling (not the stock itself, but the play between receivers as it appeared). It does not have negative influence on the accuracy, but the there is significant difference between my AR from Schmeisser and the GROT S16. Except the above, GROT S16 is a pretty solid and inter- esting rifle. Moving forward to shooting. Very pleasant to shoot with, has a low-felt recoil similar to FN SCAR-L. The cycling is faster than in other short stroke piston rifles, so the muzzle travels less and returns quicker. The shooting technique ap- plied must be different from the one used with DI AR's, but now it's not a place or time for dis- cussing this. GROT's trigger is the cheap-o version of the sin- gle-stage MIL-SPEC trigger with a bit of play. Medium travel, positive reset. It's military trigger, not the match one. Safety switch is less comfortable to use than in AR-15s. Short levers require stronger pull and their edges are pinching the fingers during in- tensive shooting. The pull of throw might be ad- justed, but I haven't got a chance to examine this. To sum up. GROT looks neat and it's comfort- able to use. If the above-mentioned flaws will be corrected, I might consider purchasing the upgraded version. Currently, out of the box, it's pretty good product, but we will see how it's going to perform after 10,000 rounds.
