ADD-ONS The Viper family helmets were built ground up as a base for scalable, modular headborne protection system and there are multiple accessories expanding the protection surface. All the additional kit is part of Revision MPAS (Modular Pro- tection Attachement System), consisting of: Ä Ballistic Protection Mandible Guard from the same UHMWPE material as the helmet shell, providing the ACH standard protection for the lower face. It will protect against 17 grain FPS fragments with 671 m/s (2200 fps) ve- locity and against 9 mm FMJ rounds with 427 m/s (1400 fps) velocity. There is also an impact performance, the mandible will withstand over 45 joules of impact with no damage. The mandible is attached to the front slots in the side rails and offers three positions. The design and the shape of the man- dible is a perfect balance between the protection surface area, weight and the stand-off from the user's face. Ballistic Mandible Guards are available in S-XL sizes (the size of the mandible must match the size of the helmet) and the Me- dium size mandible has 425 grams. Ä Non-ballistic Threats Protection Wire Man- dible Guard similar to one known from baseball helmets. This steel wire guard is dedicated to protect against blunt force impacts in peace keeping or riot control missions. This mandible will withstand over 45 joules of impact with no damage. It comes in S-XL sizes and the Medium one is 435 grams weight. Ä Viper Standard Visor clear ballistic poly-car- bonate visor is a frag resistant (17 grains @ 245 m/s) face shield with the OccuMax coating increasing resistance to fogging and scratches. The poly-carbonate is the very same as in the Revision ballistic protection goggles and those are known for their quality. The shape of the visor has cut-out near the mouth and nose area as it was designed to be worn with the ballistic mandible guard without any gap. In the upper rim of the visor there is wide polymer band working as a sealing gasket in the connection between the visor and the helmet, also increasing the stability of the setup. The vi- sor can be worn in three positions: fully locked for maximum protection, fully raised for maximum ventilation and a ven- ted witch is a balance between protection and air flow. The user can quickly and easily switch from full-seal ballistic coverage to up-and-open, and back. The visor is attached to the front mount with a rugged three-position ramp. Altho- ugh it is designed to be worn with the mandible, it can be also used in stand-alone configuration or with the M50 gas mask as there is enough clearance between the face and the visor. The Medium sized visor is approx. 275 grams. It is ava- ilable in S-XL sizes as helmet shells. Ä Viper Max Visor is a basically the very same visor as the Standard one, except the fact it was extended in the lo- wer part thus it is designed to be as a stand-alone item. It protects the face of the user below the line of mouth. The complete visor in Medium size is 325 grams. Additional accessories for the Revision Viper helmets are ComCentr2 hearing protection communication headsets and camouflage covers with loops for ro- uting the wires. www.fragoutmag.com
