so they will not activate accidentally. Adjustments of turrets requires some force and should be done with bare and dry hands. The caps must be tak- en off and reversed to use as a screw- driver. The UP/DOWN markings are on the inside of cap. Very similar system, maybe not 100% comfortable, is used in T-1/T-2. Personally, I prefer to set up adjustment with coin or casing, which is way more comfortable for me. Just remember to store the caps somewhere safe. Unfortunately, I had opportunity to loose one somewhere in the field. The local distributor sent me a new cap quickly, so no problem but it would great if the descriptions were on the adjustments screws too. Runtime. The HS503GU runs on popular single CR2032 battery. After five months of use it's still going and going. With two spare batteries in the box, we can sleep peacefully for years. Declared runtime is 50,000 h (website) or 10,000 hrs (manual). We didn't have so many hours to prove it but the manual seems to be more real. It is still way ahead of some competition sights. The battery lifetime depends on reticle settings and brightness level, the dot + circle reticle requires more power. One of the features is the automatic shut-down after ten minutes with- out any vibrations. It's called Shake Awake. Just move your gun and it will automatically turn on in the last remembered setting. What does it mean? Put the gun to the locker with the sight powered on, after ten min- utes it will go into sleep mode and after 8 hours will turn off completely. If you won't completely move for 10 minutes, sight will turn off as breath- ing is just not enough. You need to move the gun. HS503GU comes with now and 1/3 co-witness mounts. First one can be used with AKs and co-witness one works great with AR-15s. After un- boxing make sure that all screws are tightened and secured with Loclite, so they won't become loose on shooting range. The mount is skeletonized and lightweight, but HS503GU is compati- ble with Aimpoint T-1/T-2 mounts be- cause of the same footprint. The parallax error is obvious, but HS503GU Holosun HS503GU micro red dot is the most basic sight. It has Flat Dark Earth 6061-T6 aircraft-grade alumi- num body similar in shape to Aim- point T-2, but the brightness of the dot is adjusted with two buttons ("+" and "-") on top. The same buttons are used to turn on/off the sight and to change reticles. Buttons are quiet, but tactile enough and sized properly for use in gloves. The power on and off and brightness adjustments seems to be a bit more comfortable than in original T-1. HS503GU is totally am- bidextrous. When you press one of the buttons, the sight will power up in the last remembered setting. Pushing down both buttons will turn the sight off. 3-seconds long press will change the reticle, as all Holosun 500-series sights come with Multiple Reticle System (MRS). Basic reticle is 2 MOA dot, but there is also 2 MOA dot + 65 MOA circle option, same as in EOTech holosights. The 65 MOA circle advan- tages are faster target acquisition in short distance (on 100 meters, 1.75 m man silhouette should fit inside the circle) or to compensate elevation. It works better when shooting with weaponlight attached but seems to be less clear in low-light conditions. Best thing about the HS503GU is the option to choose the reticle you pre- fer. Reticle has 12 levels of brightness (2 night vision settings) which is more than enough. The difference between levels is clear and even in the very sunny day reticle is clearly visible. The windage and elevation adjust- ment turrets are slightly depressed, www.fragoutmag.com
