AW101 in Poland: Second time lucky
The recent purchase of AW101 wasn't the first try to sell
these helicopters to Polish military. In May 2005 a tender
for six VIP helicopters to replace Mi-8 was announced. The
total predicted cost of the program was approx. 500 mil-
lion PLN (approx. 124M Euro in 2005). In February 2005, the
program was cancelled without announcement of best bid.
According to sources available, best bid was placed by (then)
AgustaWestland with AW101 in VIP configuration. The bid
of approx. 800 million PLN was over the planned budget.
Other bids were placed by Sikorsky (S-92 Superhawk) and
Eurocopter (EC-725)
