FN 509 Slide is also massive with huge ejection port and very deep and ag- gressive serrations on the front and rear that makes reloading easier, even in gloves (I dare to say even cold weather glove) or with wet hands. What's more front grooves makes press checks much, much easier. 4.5" barrel of FN 509 is stainless- -steel, cold-forged and has 1/2x28 thread on business end (covered by cap) that allows to mount most of the popular suppressors or compen- sators. Gun comes with two recoil spring in the kit. Default recoil spring should be enough for firing almost every kind of ammunition (shooting with or without suppressor, high or low velocity ammunition), but the second one (with yellow marking) is the gun itself and gives original ag- gressive appearance. Factory iron sights are much tal- ler than usual but this is a result of thinking in advance about red dot on the gun and suppressor. In case the user will decide to mount red dot si- ght, the iron sights will still be visible in case of red dot breakdown (due to called co-witness) – sometimes on pistols of other manufacturers there are mounted standard height iron si- ght that are useless with MRDS and have to be replace for higher ones. If shooter decide to go just with iron sights, aiming is easier thanks to tritium dots placed on the front and rear sight that makes aiming easier in even low light scenarios. Both front and rear sight are steel and do- vetail attached. In the kit we get whole bunch of plates (adapters) for different MRDS . Manufacturer states that with tho- se plates we can mount on the FN 509 ten the most popular sights available on the market. We can su- spect that after new sights will show up, FN will release some more ad- ditional plates. What's more, it is so simple part that making one by the aftermarket companies that specia- lizes in weapon accessories will be not a problem. If the user is not shooting with MRDS, the cut out is covered by "plug" with distinctive "wings" that wraps around the rear sight and protects is from the sides against damages. It also provides a textured ramp for racking the slide against a belt loop, pant pocket or boot. And it increases the "chicks dig it factor" of Tactical www.fragoutmag.com
