First job of newly formed CBS was to develop a map of
Polish organized crime. At that time there were to large
criminal groups in Poland, based in Wolomin and Prusz-
kow, simply called Polish mafia or mob. CBS had to find
out the turfs, ID leaders and members, structure, pat-
terns and transit routes. Gaining that intelligence was
only way to find an effective way to combat mob. All
those cases required different skills, assets and mindset
of special agents.
On 9th October 2014, the CBS was separated from
Polish Police General Headquarters and became inde-
pendent agency with nationwide field offices renamed
to CBSP (Centralne Biuro Sledcze, the Police Central
Bureau of Investigation). The Director of CBSP authority
was expanded with legal and operational qualifications
on par with Chief of Polish Police. CBSP works closely
with international law enforcement agencies and police
organizations worldwide.
