Matt Tenbarge from Cloud Defensive trashed the idea of "the weaponlight we all know" and decided to design a powerful weaponlight similar in the concept to BE Meyers MAWL laser pointer with top rail offset mount and fully ambidextrous layout. The Cloud Defensive OWL is a rail-mounted weapon- light with three main parts. The center is ultra-rugged body with integrated battery compartment and switch and offset Picatinny rail mount. Body is CNC'ed from 6061-T6 Type III hard-anodized aircraft-grade alumi- The Cloud Defensive OWL was designed as a rugged high-lumen output rail-mounted weapon light without unnecessary remote switches. One of the top issues with standard weapon lights is the necessity to use the remote switch for quick and ergonomic operation. The standard on/off buttons placed usually in rear cap or somewhere on the body are usually hard to reach when the flashlight is mounted to the long gun. There are some alternatives, like thumb-operated buttons but they aren't ambidextrous when mounted in other loca- tion than the top rail. If mounted on the top rail, they might affect on the sights, etc. In 2018, the Cloud Defensive company unveiled an Optimized Weapon Light (OWL) concept, designed to solve all the issues the designers saw in existing weapon lights. Finally, after meeting guys standing behind the Cloud Defensive at IWA 2019, we received OWLs for our review. Here's the intro.
