Infanteria Marina: Spanish Marines Armada EspaƱola also has an organic ground component in its struc- ture, responsible for the amphibious operations. The Spanish Marines (Infanteria Marina) are the oldest forces as such in the world. TEAR (Tercio de Armada) element is its primary unit. It forms the core of the expeditionary component of Infanteria Marina. BRIMAR (Brigada de Infanteria de Marina) is the TEAR's primary strike force, comprising two light infantry battalions, one mechanized battalion, an amphibi- ous group, artillery elements, reconnaissance element, and C2/combat support element. The armament includes, among other assets, 39 Pira- nha IIIC APCs, around 150 HMMWV, and VAMTAC ST5 vehicles, 17AAV- 7A amphibious vehicles, 16 155 mm M109A2 self-propelled howitzers, 12 105 mm Oto Melara towed howitzers, ECIA mortars, 12 Mistral air defense systems and TOW/Spike-LR ATGMs. BRIMAR is employed in combat landing operations. It also supports the land forces, rescue op- erations, humanitarian aid operations, and peacekeeping deployments. The unit is also involved in anti-piracy operations or the protection of maritime routes. FUPRO (La Fuerza de Protecction) is the second ele- ment of the TEAR component. FUPRO comprises elements responsible for the protection of Armada EspaƱola's bases and facilities. Third is FGNE (Fuerza de Guerra Naval Especial) special operations unit. It is NAVY
