channel cannot be replaced without a loss of quality (image resolution for instance). In the optical channel, the PERI-RTWL-B instrument can only transmit video with a resolution of 6 Mpix. Obviously, the Puma IFV fire control suite features a fully digital ballistic computer receiving the data from the vehicle sensor in an automated manner. Another quite interesting matter is the fact that Puma lacks the auto tracker. The Germans claim that tracking the thermal signature or the outline of the targets is lacking reliability on the European theatre and that the tracking is also exposed to disruption with the use of smoke grenades or natural obstacles. However, the SPz Puma IFV is ultimately going to receive an auto tracker system. It would be optimized for acting against mini- and micro-UAV systems. Counter-UAS capability is the direction towards which the FCS of the vehicle is expected to evolve. Puma IFV is a good example of how difficult it may be to assess the firepower and the FCS of the given platform, at first sight. On paper, one could conclude that the firepower of the Pumais not special when compared to the competing designs. One may come to a ridiculous conclusion even, that apart from the ABM ammunition, the Puma's capabilities lag behind the Russian Berezhok or Bakhcha-U, or the Kurganets-25 turret designs. Realistically, the situation is different, as the firepower quality depends on many factors listed above. This has been shown and proven by the test program conducted in the Czech Republic. There Puma was far in front of its contemporary competitors. Unfortunately, the Puma's FCS that far exceeds the capabilities of FCS integrated on 3rd generation MBTs is an expensive and costly asset. The cost of the FCS in a modern tank can constitute up to 40% of the total vehicle price. And this is visible in the price-tag associated with the Puma IFV. An infantry fighting vehicle with an MBT-like FCS simply has to have a price-tag equivalent to the main battle tank. This creates a doubt - an expensive vehicle carrying the infantry cannot be exposed and ANALYSIS
