SIG Sauer From the technological and design standpoint, the SIG Sauer NGSW proposals are the most conventional ones, even abstemious, and definitely not as ambitious as GD- -OTS or Textron ones. This could be both an advantage and disadvantage for the rising star of New Hampshire. The company has already won the technologically de- manding USSOCOM SURG (Suppressed Upper Receiver Group) program and US Army Modular Handgun System pistol program with M17 and M18 P320-based pistols. SIG Sauer is the only NGSW bidder which builds the firearms completely in-house and the existing infrastructure could be easily adopted to produce new systems and ammu- nition. SIG Sauer NGSW-R (also known as MCX-SPEAR and earlier as MCX-MR) is based on the successful design of MCX assault rifle with some additional tweaks required in NGSW. SIG advertises its product as a well-known AR-15 platform perfectly known by soldiers with improved ergo- nomics. The rifle has doubled charging handles (AR-15 style one and additional side handle), bolt catch and ma- gazine release buttons. The SIG Sauer NGSW-AR proposal is belt-fed and based on their .338 Norma Magnum MG338 machine gun. The recoil reduction system of NGSW-R and NGSW-AR was patented in 2019 and it was implemented for the first time in the .338 Norma Magnum MG338 machine gun purchased in 2020 by USSOCOM. The system is based on FIREARMS
