T
he main closure is the two-way zipper secured
with the storm flap. All the zippers were
replaced with coiled zippers instead of splash
resistant ones in 3.0. Jacket is not waterproofed,
so waterproof zippers were pure overkill. Also, the
NIR-compliant zippers are usually a problem – color-
matched IRR zippers are expensive and require rather
big orders. If you have jackets in four different colors
you would need four different IRR zippers. Carinthia
decided to replace it with the standard coiled zippers
which are covered by the fabric when closed. In the
bottom there is an elastic drawcord with regulators
– the excess of the cord stays under the jacket to
prevent snagging.
The hood was slightly redesigned to improve its
adjustment. The rear adjusting cord is now hidden
under the Velcro flap and does not bounce or snag.
Collar was lined inside with soft-brushed micro-
fleece fabric for additional comfort and warmth. The
micro-fleece won't get so dirty as the nylon fabric
too.
Sleeves are profiled and have cuffs with Cordura
laminate adjusting tabs. There is also an internal
cuff from the stretch fabric which adjusts well to the
arms or gloves.
Shoulders and elbow areas are reinforced with
Cordura 500D nylon fabric for increased tear
resistance. The fabric will protect the jacket against
pack strap or your Carl Gustav strap.
