Polish Navy received a single vessel, the building of which took 18 years, that has no actual offensive and defensive potential at its disposal. Furthermore, as admitted by the PGZ War Ship- yard manager - Ślązak is overweight, despite the lack of most of the weapons systems that were expected to be integrated on that vessel. The above means that even if extra funds be- come available to add extra ordnance on board, this may be a serious challenge, or could, just as well, be impossible. Discuss- ing the potential modernization one should add that it would be financially justified only after the "Miecznik" frigates pro- curement program is launched. This would make it possible to procure more weapons systems and effectors (anti-ship and air defense missiles), and electronics. Only if equipment and ar- mament are unified across several vessels, could the unit price be lowered concerning the newly procured systems and the associated costs of maintenance. A unified training program for the operators would be another advantage here. As the launch of the Miecznik program seems to be a distant prospect, it is more realistic that limited modernization effort could take place NAVY
