The Regional IT Center in Gdynia responsible for communica- tions and coastal surveillance is another, relevant land-based el- ement of the Polish Navy. It conducts its operations with the use of a network of fixed and mobile outposts. The former comes in the form of a tower-based outpost with maritime (commercial nav radars) and air radars (NUR-23 radars). The Navy shares some of the fixed outposts with the Border Guard that has its own maritime surveillance system (ZSRN) at its disposal. Outpost as such, alongside the radar, also features an EO sys- tem. Mobile outposts with "silent" RM-100 radars complement the aforesaid array of assets. The system, as a whole, provides the Navy with an ability to continuously monitor the coastal part of the border, and the airspace as well. Thanks to the above, the system may be used as another source of data on maritime and air pictures, complementing the sensors integrated on warships or air platforms. END OF PART ONE not mean that MJR is a perfect element, without any deficien- cies. The disadvantages stem from the limited situational aware- ness that is caused by a limited array of modern ISR assets in the Polish military, that could effectively support the MJR element during crises or wartime. Other disadvantages of the unit, that can be easily addressed and rectified, include the lack of em- phasis placed on the acquisition of a sufficient quantity of cam- ouflage and decoy equipment, such as mock vehicles or radar emission imitators, all of which would increase the survivability of the system in combat. Polish Navy's air defense assets that defend the land bases in- clude two air defense squadrons (8th and 9th air defense squad- ron) subordinated to the flotillas. Each of the squadrons consists of a command platoon using the WD-2001 command vehicle, NUR-22-N radar, and three anti-aircraft batteries. Each battery uses a single WD-95 fire control vehicle and 4 modernized 57 mm S-60MB guns, along with a Grom MANPADS squad. www.fragoutmag.com
