U SAGE Using an initially con- figured VIPER II comes to generally pushing a transmission and talk button (Push-to-talk) like in a typical radio phone. Thanks to such common design, teaching new personnel, like security detail, movie set op- erators etc. takes several minutes at most. If someone has previous experience with regular two-way radios, they will have no problems with getting used to a new device. Despite looks and color display, VIPER II has another part common with other cell phones – it is based on the Android system. Of course it doesn't have a plethora of apps due to the small and non-touch screen but still it enables users to create and manage user groups. It allows communication with the whole group or selected members of the group as needed. Additionally there is a possibility of sending text messag- es, not only vocal communication. VIPER II has more advanced func- tionalities that other radio phones lack. User can verify his location and location of other members on the map in real-time. Localization service based on GPS allows to show a route made by the device's user. We had an opportunity to use VI- PER II and even in densely urban- ized Warsaw city center we didn't have any problems with signal and sound's quality, no matter the dis- tance (we tested it in a radius of approx. 1,500m). Only noticeable thing was a slight delay in trans- mission, several (maybe few doz- ens) milliseconds. VIPER II works great as a replacement of tradition- al radios and it's almost unlimited range (there is planned connection with WB GROUP's PIM system) al- lows configuring networks with ca- pabilities that regular radio phones will never be able to offer. Using VIPER II is utterly simple and con- figuring them shouldn't cause prob- lems as well. www.fragoutmag.com
