9 mm AREX Defense Delta Gen.2 semi-automatic polymer frame striker fired pistol is not the first handgun from AREX. Their first firearm was the REX Zero 1 pistol slightly based on the SIG P226, with aluminum frame and stainless steel slide and its competition grade Alpha pistol. Next was the Delta polymer frame striker fired gun unveiled in 2018 (initially as REX Delta). In early 2021 Delta Gen.2 improved version was released. The new gun has been already delivered to one of the government agencies in Poland (sold by a Polish repre- sentative, the Works 11 company). The AREX Delta is a true double action striker-fired short-re- coil operated pistol. As opposed to some hammerless pistols with fully cocked strikers, the Delta's striker spring is only par- tially compressed as a cartridge is chambered. The handgun has no external safety switches and features only internal trigger safety, drop safety and firing pin safety. AREX Defense Delta Gen.2 is currently available in three sizes and in optional optics-ready (OR) variant with factory milled slide for micro red dots (MRDS). Frames are available in Black, Flat Dark Earth and Gun Smoke Grey colors. Sizes are as follows: Full-size Delta L with 114 mm barrel, compact Delta M with 102 mm barrel and cross-over Delta X with compact slide and full-size grip (as Glock 19X or 45). Barrels have a 1:10 right-hand twist. There is a recoil spring and recoil spring rod just under the barrel, locked with plastic inserts similar to Glock firing pin spring block. It seems to be the most problematic part of the gun. The polymer frame has Picatinny/MIL-STD-1913 rail with three slots for weaponlights, flared magazine well for faster reloads and has phenomenal texture on the grip and sides. It is very "grippy" and has the texture similar to fine sandpa- per which works perfectly even when hands are wet or dirty. www.fragoutmag.com
