B-1B throughout the year 2021
The USAF's B-1B fleet has found itself in interesting, yet convoluted
circumstances. A while back, 62 aircraft remained in service, two of which
were being used by the 419th FLTS test flight squadron, based at Edwards AFB.
The remaining ones were grouped in two combat units - 7th Bomb Wing based
at Dyess AFB in Texas, and 28th Bomb Wing based at Ellsworth AFB in South
Dakota. The intensive employment of the aircraft in Syria and Iraq (in the recent
period), and in Afghanistan (in the past) had a dramatic impact on the
technical condition in which the aircraft found themselves
in. This created a major setback in the
combat readiness domain.
