MAPA TACTICAL
MAPA
The history of MAPA (Multi-Environmen-
tal Adaptive PAttern, and Polish word for
"map") camouflage pattern designed by
Maciej Dojlitko was thoroughly described in
FRAG OUT! Magazine #18 in 2018 based on
events regarding that brief moment in the
history of the universe when Polish Armed
Forces were shyly considering changing a
camouflage to replace the old wz.93 (Pan-
tera, Woodland camouflage pattern) used
up to this day. Despite camouflage patterns
created "internally" by the army's labs,
MAPA pattern, which started from 2010,
was down-selected. Micro-pattern, mac-
ro-pattern, color transitions and contrasts
between them, slightly psychedelic shape
of spots – modern features and techniques
and what's the most important, 100% Pol-
ish designed and made, and effective in the
field. How it finished – sadly we all know.
Polish Armed Forces are using wz.93 up to
this day and nothing gives a hint of possi-
bly changing it in the future – thousands of
uniforms are being ordered in this archaic
camouflage pattern.
In the meantime, just before MSPO 2017,
the abovementioned MASKPOL company
purchased a license for MAPA patterns so
there was a chance that not everything is
lost and maybe the camouflage would be
used by someone like Special Forces. Even-
tually no one was interested in it and MAPA
was put on the shelf. Until September 2020.
