decided on a different type of vehicle,
the smaller ACS Armoured Car Sys-
tems GmbH LAPV Enok 6.1 for rapid
urban counter terror operations and
against active shooters.
All new Rheinmetall SW 5 vehicles
will be equipped with remotely con-
trolled weapons stations for machine
guns (HK MG5 or FN Minimi) and/or
ultra-modern ISTAR-optronics-pack-
age. Meanwhile, the federal police
decided to field their own new Sur-
vivor R vehicles with around 40 new
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann FLW 100 re-
motely controlled weapons stations.
However, the remotely controlled
weapons stations and machine gun
procurement program for the police
is not concluded yet.
The Survivor R was developed by
Rheinmetall in cooperation with the
Austrian special vehicle manufactur-
er Achleitner, who is acting as a sub-
contractor for the main project that
has now been signed. It must not be
confused with Achleitner´s own HMV
Survivor I (High Mobility Vehicle) and
PMV Survivor II (Protected Mission
Vehicle) fleet.
According to the manufacturer, the
final assembly and handover of the
serial production of vehicles will take
place at Rheinmetall Landsysteme
GmbH in Kassel.
The Survivor R is based on a pow-
erful 4x4 MAN truck chassis. The
340 HP engine with 1,250 Nm torque
ensures excellent mobility. The SW
5 weight is up to 17 tons. The highly
armored monocoque cabin offers the
crew versatile protection against rel-
evant threats as Kalashnikov rounds
of all common types, IEDs, mines
and small arms fire in general. The
interior is ergonomically designed
and offers sufficient space for the
crew of two and up to 10 SEK oper-
ators in the rear, including personal
equipment as well as extensive mod-
ern communication, command and
control equipment. A dozer kit can be
installed on all SW 5 and also addi-
tional protection kits to the armored
windows.
