Illusion Revisited … On our way to Lviv, we encounter billboards that praise the heroism of the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Military vehicles and buses here are not a surprising sight here. A vast range in Yavoriv is located nearby. Numerous multi-axle flatbed trailers headed to Poland are a surprising sight though. Earlier on I witnessed several vehicles as such in Poland, carrying US Humvees. The biggest logistical operation since WWII is taking place in the southeastern corner of Poland. Each day, mainly with the use of temporary border crossing points, a lot of equipment needed to fight the Russians is sent to Ukraine. The transfer of the larger „parcels" happens at night. The risk of the Russian airstrikes is negligible but existent. Thus, it is quite a challenge to see transporter sets filled with equipment during the day. Those returning are easier to spot. And we need to reach the Kievian suburbs to notice the impact that war had on the surrounding landscape. The E-40 road towards the city is fully usable, but it also has been injured. The rubble from collapsed bridges was cleaned up, bomb craters - tarmac was placed over them, while the wreckage of the Russian tanks, destroyed in mass quantities in February and March last year, as they were approaching Kyiv, was towed away to scrapyards. Burned-down buildings are still a frightening sight that one can see on both sides of the road. - The Russians have placed their artillery here - our Ukrainian guide said. - Our Pion systems wasted them – the man referred to the 203 mm 2S7 self-propelled guns, designed during the USSR era, also to fire nuclear rounds.
