but never say bye. Saying goodbyes may be jinxed. It may be the last farewell, and we want to avoid that in general. Equipment - optimization, minimizing the kit, selection of its elements. And for example: why did you pick the new MAPA camo? Does it bear any significance? The selection of kit...it was all matur- ing - right from the very start, every time we came back, we talked: „We should do something about this vest", „Here we should go in a different direction", and in this way, from light plates, when working in conditions where artillery shelling was present, we transitioned to modular vests where plates come together with kevlar, in- serts are everywhere, shoulder protection, neck protection, or groin protection can also be attached. We work with the wound- ed, we see how many wounds are present in the groin area, and how many scrotums are damaged. We use kevlar belts, hip pro- tectors - and we adjust that, put it on, or leave it, depending on the needs. When it comes to helmets, full helmets would be a much better option, as necks and ears are also pretty much exposed to being wound- ed. We are rather inclined to use fasts, as they are more suitable to use active hear- ing protection. Barotrauma is one of the popular wounds on the battlefield, caused by the impact the pressure has on those suffering from it. Active hearing protection measures protect one better within that scope. When it comes to the remainder of the kit - all is dictated by the experience. Sleeping bags. They need to be good. Comfortable down to -25 degrees centi- grade. You need tents or bivy bags so that the sleeping bags do not become humid. Sometimes we use feather/down bags, instead of synthetic ones. Rechargeable flashlights with red light, eco-flow power generator, solar panels, radios - all of our kit is defined by practical experience. And you need to be careful here, not to carry too much, or too little. All of our equipment is very much limited by the cargo compart- ment of a single car that we use to travel around. That car needs to have enough space for the crew, equipment necessary to survive, medical equipment, and medi- cal supplies. Here, we need to work based on our experience and react to the require- ments. 79 www.fragoutmag.com INTERVIEW
