12 www.fragoutmag.com for precision shooting but hitting the metal target 50 metres away wasn't a problem. So I've decided to order an M4 RAS from a fellow company but I had some concerns. I didn't know if it would come alone or with accessories and the price of $250 was rather hefty. The ETA was also hard to defineā€¦ Fortunately, on one of the Facebo- ok sales groups I found a brand new full KAC M4 RAS, with all the furniture - VFG and rail covers, all in original cover. Thes seller was asking for $200, quite reasonable. Similar kit at Brownells was more than $500 so the choice was quite obvious. When all parts finally arri- ved I was able to put together my "variation" on the "OEF M4" (side note: the variation, as Colt's scopes were never used with M4s, US Ar- med Forces were seen with Aimpo- int red dots, Trijicon Reflex sights and ACOG scopes). Scope attachment is relatively easy, but it is important to remem- ber that the weapon must be zero- ed every time due to the archaic method of mounting in the opening of the carrying handle, locked by a spring pressure with a screw, which is not repeatable. For this reason, I put it on the M4 and it will probably stay there primarily, be- cause this is the carbine I use, unli- ke the M16A1, which is mainly used to stand in the closet and be pretty. There was a bit of a hustle with the M4 RAS forend assembly as it locks to the rifle's barrel nut via clamp and screw arrangement. After several minutes I managed to put the whole thing on the gun and was surprised to find that despite the rather archaic way of mounting compared to today's free floating handguards the whole thing holds extremely stable. On the bottom rail I've placed the VFG and on the top one, the Configured as mentio- ned, the carbine looks "very tacti- cal" and at first glance appears to be a legit military M4. However, the second glance allows you to notice the longer PEQ-2 box. The unused rails I've covered with proprietary rail covers and routed the cables and switch and then secured them with Velcro straps. Barrel (16", the USGI was 14.5"). The scope is also not exactly the one which should be there. Howe- ver, this does not change the fact that the STAG M4 dressed in such a way is pleasing to the eye, and at the same time it does not lose its performance. I even competed with it once in the 3-gun and it did well. One may ask oneself "what is it for"? Yes, you can, but I am bowled over by a carbine configured this
