The process is now approaching a key milestone with the imminent signing of a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) between Poland and the United States. On October 23, the U.S. Department of State approved Poland's request to purchase modernization packa- ges and related equipment for its F-16C/D fleet. This approval was one of the final formal steps before the LOA was signed. According to published documents, the program could reach a maximum value of $7.3 bil- lion, though the final cost will depend on negotiations undertaken by both parties. Under the approved pac- kage, Poland intends to acquire: 58 new IPDG multi- functional displays (10 spares) for cockpit upgrades; 58 GPS/EGI navigation systems with SAASM modules (10 spares); 58 AN/APG-83 SABR radars (10 spares); 60 MMC (or equivalent) mission computers (12 spa- res); 60 XMC (or equivalent) computers (12 spares); 73 electronic warfare systems: AN/ALQ-257 IVEWS or AN/ ALQ-254(v)1 Viper Shield (10 spares).
