Lightning II

Between the second half of October and November 7, one of Japan's two "helicopter destroyers" operated near the
coast of California. The mission of JS Kaga (DDH 184) was to conduct trials and certification paving the way for
the potential deployment of Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) multirole
fighter jets. Japan will be the first Asian operator of this aircraft variant.
