are under continuous development. For a soldier the app serves as his digital ID and service book. The app simplifies and speeds up medical examinations, provides up-to-date information about a soldier's pay, allows remote submission of leave requests or transfer requests to other units — and many other things. In reality the Ukrainian MoD constantly expands the content and capabilities of this application. At the same time a process of eliminating a large part of records and documents that were simply regarded as obsolete and not corresponding to the current state of the army — often inherited directly from the Soviet era — was begun. The management system was put in order and digital documentation for officers and army staffs was introduced. Separately, a digital system for logistics management in the army and for inventory of weapons, ammunition and equipment is being implemented. Given that this is happening in an army conducting intense front-line fighting, the process is extremely complex and difficult to implement. Thus, the whole process will undoubtedly take a long time and the MoD is forced to introduce changes gradually, step by step, so that too- sudden changes do not break the system and do not cause chaos at the front. Direction Two – The Unified Delta Battlefield Management System At the same time Delta gained additional momentum during the full-scale war. Beyond the fact that the scale of the war drew command's attention to Delta as a readily available means of increasing the effectiveness of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield, the very character of this war practically compels the introduction of similar solutions. Heavy saturation of the battlefield with drones creates an environment that motivates the creation of an in- house BMS tailored to the conditions in which the Ukrainian army operates, rather than implementing off-the-shelf Western solutions designed for other conditions and for different types of war. That is why Delta has developed rapidly in recent years. A group of specialists was created within the AFU tasked with developing the system. Practically, as is usual in Ukrainian conditions, several programmer groups were combined — volunteers from different AFU units who had independently developed various products for the military, which were later integrated into one system. Today the development of Delta is handled by an institution called the Centre for Innovation and Development of Defense Technologies at the AFU. The system's creators call it "Google for the army" because the product goes beyond the framework of a traditional BMS. It is also a means of secure communication within the army, a platform for live transmission and, of course, a multi- layered system allowing coordination of operations on the front line at every level: from strategic down to tactical. According to the creators, they were forced to build their own platform for live streaming within Delta to handle the drone feeds used by Ukrainian staffs at all levels. External platforms proved unsuitable for that purpose. Moreover, they developed AI tools to support data analysis by staff officers. These tools allow the detection of concealed soldiers, equipment and enemy positions directly during live drone transmissions. www.fragoutmag.com
