I was particularly impressed by the "My Service Rifle" series— clones of firearms used in spe- cific events of modern history, such as the GAU-5A/A. The origi- nal version was used by American commandos during the failed 1970 attempt to rescue POWs from the Son Tay camp in North Vietnam (Operation "Ivory Coast"). Another standout was my favorite, the XM177E2—an icon of MACV-SOG operations. These rifles impressed with their excellent replication of original features—color, roll marks, furniture—and accessories that "crushed the system". The XM177E2 package was par- ticularly substantial: it included a short 20-round magazine, a 30-ro- und magazine, and a green canvas sling (original, period-correct, but with metal eyelets replaced with 550 cord, exactly as soldiers did in the Mekong Delta 55 years ago). It also came with a cleaning kit, a reprint of the original 1967 manu- al, and the original comic book de- signed to explain the complexities of the "black rifle" to the average Joe from Idaho, with three "death cards" serving as the cherry on top. One could say that Troy made a very good first impression on the Polish market, and as the saying goes: you only get one chance to make a first impression. THEY WERE FEATURED IN FRAG OUT! MAGAZINE BACK THEN, BUT TROY SUBSEQUENTLY VANISHED FROM POLAND, ONLY TO RECENTLY MAKE A COMEBACK. I ENCOUNTERED THESE RIFLES IN THE PAST AND MUST ADMIT THEY MADE A STRONG IMPRESSION WITH THEIR BUILD QUALITY, SMOOTH OPERATION, AND ATTRACTIVE DESIGN. ON THE RANGE, THEY ALSO LEFT A VERY POSITIVE IMPRESSION, ALTHOUGH OUR INITIAL ACQUAINTANCE WITH THEM WAS MORE CURSORY THAN DETAILED. Troy Troy Patrol Rifle Patrol Rifle www.fragoutmag.com
