TROY IN PL: REBOOT
Troy rifles reappeared a few mon-
ths ago. Unfortunately, these are
currently only modern designs;
the "My Service Rifle" series is not
among them, though there is re-
portedly a possibility of its revival.
Emphasis on "reportedly". Curren-
tly, the Polish distributor offers
two AR-15 rifles—both are the Troy
Patrol Rifle model, differing only in
barrel length: 11.5" and 14.5". We
received the longer-barreled ver-
sion for review.
As mentioned, we are dealing with
a classic representative of the mo-
dern AR-15 with direct gas impinge-
ment (DI) system. The rifle
utilizes a mid-length gas
system, which is optimal for
this barrel length. The 14.5-inch
barrel is cold hammer-forged
from nitride 4150 chrome-moly-
-vanadium steel. It features a 1:8
twist rate (the most versatile)
and a Wylde chamber, allowing
for the safe and accurate use of
both 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem
rounds.
The barrel is shrouded by a 12.5"
TROY Gen2 SOCC handguard, fe-
aturing a MIL-STD-1913 top rail
and M-LOK slots on all side surfa-
ces and the bottom. The handgu-
ard is low-profile and features an
attractive pattern cut into the metal
to ensure a secure grip; it is also li-
ghtweight due to numerous lighte-
ning cuts. For those using slings
with QD mounts, there are four at-
tachment points located near the
upper receiver. Regarding the secu-
rity of the handguard attachment,
the Troy Patrol Rifle uses four solid
mounting bolts—perhaps not the
most sophisticated method, but hi-
ghly effective.
The BCG is made of hardened steel,
subjected to multi-stage heat tre-
atment, and coated for wear and
