BATLSKIN CAIMAN The Batlskin Caiman family was officially unveiled during the SOFIC special forces conference in May 2017. Unlike previous programs, which were often adapta- tions of conventional infantry designs, the Caiman was engineered from the gro- und up specifically for USSOCOM in response to the requirement for the Family of Tactical Headborne Systems (FHTS). FHTS was intended to be a modular system allowing for a seamless transition from a lightweight composite shell (carbon/bump) to a ballistic platform using add-on ballistic appliques. While the program pushed industry boundaries, the Caiman set a new standard for skeletonization and integration, proving that a single system could meet requirements for maritime operations, HALO/ HAHO jumps, or DA ops in full CBRNE gear without compromising stability. The development process relied on an iterative „Human Factors" approach. Galvion engineers worked directly with operators to identify critical issues: @Weight-induced fatigue: Standard helmets caused significant neck stra- in during long-term operations. @Stability issues: Night Vision Goggles (NVG) caused the helmet to wobble or rock. @Component integration: Cables posed a serious snag hazard. Ultimately, another ballistic protection manufacturer was selected as the win- ner of the FHTS program, but for Galvion, participation in the SOCOM-funded project allowed them to develop the concept into a viable product.
