A R T I C L E T E X T : M I C H A Ł P I E K A R S K I D E S I G N : A D O B E / P O W E R On the night of November 15th-16th, 2025, forecasts regarding hybrid threats once again proved accurate, as an attack on the Polish railway infrastructure was successfully carried out. This mar- ks a further escalation of Russian activities against Poland and signals the likelihood of additional attacks. It is known that on railway line No. 7, near the Mika pas- senger stop, between the Dęblin and Garwolin stations, at least one explosive charge detonated on the evening of November 15th, 2025, creating a small breach in the rail. According to media reports, there may have been as many as three charges, although they did not function as intended by the perpetrators. Additional incidents were also reported in the same area on November 16th and 17th, including possible deliberate damage to the overhe- ad catenary system and the discovery of a metal plate fastened to the rails near Puławy Azoty station. The most significant incident, however, remains the explosion on line No. 7 (most likely intended to derail a train). Fortunately, the perpetrators failed to achieve their objective. This was not the first, instance of railway infrastruc- ture being targeted. The arrest by Poland's Internal Security Agency (ABW) in 2023 of a group conducting reconnaissance of railway lines in eastern Poland came as no surprise. Their activities included installing cameras near tracks and preparing to derail trains transporting military equipment to Ukraine. Subsequent suspicious incidents included the spilling of Ukrainian grain from fre- ight wagons at Kotomierz station in 2024, the deliberate placement of an obstacle on tracks near Gliwice (which damaged a passenger train but did not cause a derail- ment), and the intentional uncoupling of a freight wagon in Silesia in September 2024. These events did not at- tract significant public attention, and it remains unclear whether they were acts commissioned by Russian opera- tives or ordinary criminal activity. Their impact was also comparatively limited.. This time, however, the attack involved the use of an explosive device. his alone constitutes a deliberate signal: an improvised explosive device is not equivalent to spilled grain. Secondly, the attack was clearly intended to derail a train and endanger human life. The line in question car- ries passenger, express, and freight trains transporting a wide range of cargo, including fuels and hazardous chemicals, making the potential consequences of a suc- cessful derailment easy to imagine.
