Changes, Changes, Changes... The rifle is still in the TLC phase of development, when certain details and parts are tweaked this or that way to check what would do best. That's why e.g. the trigger characteristics are so different between the rifles, not without influencing the accuracy in precision shooting. the wat (military technology universit y in warsaw) is still working on the ar-15-st yle semiautomatic-only fire control group for the msbs-5,56k (k for classic configuration, with but tstock). objective civilian-legal fcg would employ the ar-15 layout, while the selective-fire military fcg would be a different mechanism, incompatible with ar-15, designed at the fb radom. Another still pondered question is which type of barrel would be used for final version of the rifle. So far both plain and ribbed barrels were tested. The latter boast several important advantages, including greater rigidity and better cooling owing to the greater area of barrel-to-air interface. But most of all, they are just lighter. The flip side though is they are more expensive and more complicated to manufacture. So, unfortunately, the plain barrels are more likely to get introduced with the series-production variant. The newest msbs lower (in both Classic and Bullpup incarnation) incorporated an exchangeable pistol grip. The new pistol grip interface enables to use both classic m4/m16 pistol grips and the new generation 'hump- back' grips, like the magpul miad – unlike the scar or acr. When it comes to MSBS pistol grip configuration, the sky is the limit – any COTS pistol grip would fit. Besides the exchangeable pistol grip there are some more changes in the recent msbs-k prototype (some were hinted at in last Frag Out! issue). The new model has got almost the final version of the safety-fire selector lever. To please those shooters who positively hate to bump into the lever on the inactive side, the series-production variant would be supplied with a plug to replace the offensive inactive lever. Still, the recent styling of the safe- ty-selector spindle enables to set the angle between the respective sides' levers to the operator's liking entirely, just like in bat tle arms development a.s.s. or hera arms, so that problem would be able to get solved in many ways and shouldn't pose problems. www.fragoutmag.com
