Yeah, Yeah. a knife has been, indeed, a tool, but for the thousands of Years it has also been the simplest and most basic weapon. modern sol- dier fights, first of all, with his rifle, but a knife is still the most universal tool which he takes with him to the battlefield. is that in this waY the everYdaY life? to defend effectively with a knife, unfortunately, deep knowledge of the subject is a mist. those who have already acquired it usually would not need a knife – such a paradox since possessing a knife one knows how harmful it is and does not treat it as a toy. the same is with a weapon. please, note that people who carry a weapon with them treat it as some- thing the most precious, but also with a kind of affection and attention. why? because they know that it is a tool for combat. this is a weapon, which demands to be responsible in order to carry and use it. and is it different with a knife? no, a knife is also a tool which should be granted a special respect. whom would we be today without that that simple piece of metal? a knife has that special something in it. there are no two knives which are the same. You know, of course, that it is a strong metaphor. and i am not talking about knives on the shop shelf – a knife soul connects with its owner and then it form the entire stuff. jest całością. some of us have indeterminate feeling towards knifes. perhaps, it is the same what we feel sitting by the camp fire? that is something in our genes. why every little boy wants to have a knife? as he is a hunter, a warrior, a male whose task is to fight and protect. does it sound stupid? when i was a teenager i did think in this way. today i know that a knife is a tool which requires responsibility, respect and taking care. as with a weapon in the war and a horse in the cavalry. even a few years ago you could buy a knife in poland only from a production line. so, ordinarily, in the shop, in the box, with the receipt and company's brochure, a machine-made knife manufactured in large amounts. an access to hand-made knives has been insignificant and known only to a very narrow group. well, you will be amazed – how it is possible? to a "narrow group" and "lately"? well, if 4000-6000 of people exchan- ging knowledge and communicating with themselves by a few websites connected with subject of knives you can assume as a "large number", i unfortunately must undeceive you. even up till now a customised hand-made knife outside the industry and acquaintance circles is still a real rare thing. in poland people who have them are still a little group, and their manufacturers form even a smaller one. but all the time the both groups grow and get better. the availability of knowledge, internet and a possibility to buy modern materials and tools have caused that today a hand-made knife is some- thing tangible. i will not give you the exact dates when in poland began selling and manufacturing of hand-made knives. that is something what doesn't exist. such knives has been manufactured from years, but today their availability is much more greater. once knives has been produced for a closely knit team. today, a hand-made knife can be bought in the e-shop or sometimes even in the specialised traditional one, alternatively during rallies or at exhibitions, when "knife makers" hang around. and so we get to the bottom of the topic. a classics. a customised hand-made knife made by a knife maker is a quin- tessence of a "custom" form. because just "custom" is up till now still the most common name describing a customised hand-made knife. www.fragoutmag.com
