In such a situation only self-possession and an excellent training enables to save a life of the wounded person. Companies which manufacture constricting bands of the very poor quality or even their substitutes have only an attitude towards prof- its, frequently based only the lack of knowledge of the prospecting customer. Imagine only my surprise, when an operator of the one of special units sent me a link to the web site on which there were published a backpack strap (a strap with a loop), and underneath a de- scription: "a tactical tourniquet". That is why, in my opinion, so nec- essary is further education of users in terms of selecting, carrying, main- tenance and using a chosen tactical tourniquet. PlanninG and rUleS Every original tactical tourniquet is ex- ceptional, and its manufacturer, while designing it, had behind him a group of specialists who were supporting him in creating an optimal product. Unfor- tunately, as it happens in life, there are not any entirely universal things there- fore occurs a need to select appropri- ately devices and other equipment. Considering a choice of the tourni- quet, one must take into account en- vironment, in which we will operate (water, high humidity, dry, sandy, etc.) and dangers resulting from it (con- taminating or difficulties when taking on a wet tourniquet). Every tactical tourniquet which we use, must be ac- knowledged thoroughly and tested in different weather and environmental conditions. Personally, as an instruc- tor of the tactical rescue services, I do think that one might want to get to know every kind of the tactical tourniquets offered on the market. Get to know their strengths and weaknesses, as well as be able to select them according to the kind of the performed task. A change of the operation terrain can force a change in the equipment, including personal medical packages and a way that should be carried. Please, remember that possessing an improvised constricting band or a tactical tourniquet does not guarantee survival in 100%. We must subtract 70% of it because of the stress factor and 25% for the good luck – so, we remain with 5% of skills. The better the latter factor, the more chances to save our own life. www.fragoutmag.com
