Unfortunately, even the most pleasant shooting
session inevitably concludes in a dreaded
question: 'To Clean, Or Not To Clean'?
Sometime the fatigue or just simple laziness
overcomes the Good Rifleman in us and we
just throw our faithful friend back into the vault,
vowing to make up for this sorrowful neglect
tomorrow – which of course most of the times
lasts until the next visit to the range. Back in the
times of corrosive ammo that would be a mortal
sin, but nowadays we can get away with it quite
lightly – yet some day there comes a moment
of truth when the amount of residue starts to
overflow and we just can't avoid cleaning and
lubing it anymore.
A multitude of gun maintenance gadgets from
zillions of manufacturers have one trait in
common: their marketing departments keep
reassuring the potential buyer, that their and
only their products are THE most efficient,
THE easiest to use – and generally THE best.
THE reality not always bears out these
promises, though...
This time I got a chance to test another one
of these, manufactured by a company called
SchleTec (courtesy of their Polish distributor,
Cenzin). The cleaning kit comes packed in
a neat, small, zipped Cordura pouch with
MOLLE/PALS attachment. The contents are:
1 bottle of Bore Cleaner compound with
applicator;
1 bottle of Gun Cleaner compound;
1 bottle of Carbon Cleaner compound;;
1 bottle of Optic Cleaner compound;
1 bottle of 2-in-1 Gun Tuning Oil;
Oil applicator (a very clever device,
indeed!);
Felt cleaning pads with sheathed steel
cable cleaning pull through;
Lens cloth.
The manufacturer vowed that this is a military-
grade stuff and it can clean the worst gunk
you can imagine – plus making it lightning fast
