It didn't faced a decent brush in quite a while, and just recently has undergone a quite intensive workout, amongst other while testing the TRAX rails for the FRAG OUT! #02 (https://fragout.uberflip. com/issue/372730/135). The rifle was in such a tragic state of neglect (I know – I did it) that it started to miss locking on reloading from the amount of residue inside the gas tube and on the gas piston, and I had to start tapping on the cocking handle to lock it each time I reloaded a cold rifle. A perfect proving ground for testing a big-mouthed product. The Big Scrub Of course the cleaning starts with unloading and clearing the weapon: visual and tactile checking the chamber and dry-firing, with a muzzle securely pointed in a safe direction. Now that the patient is rendered harmless, and the operating table is ready, it's time for personal hygiene: expendable surgical gloves keep your hands from dirt and sometimes vile smelling stuff needed to remove it. OK, now it's the time to operate on the patient. Because of the lamentable state I got my AK into, I decided to give it a Field-Strip Plus: I went beyond the normal field stripping procedure by completely disassembling the bolt and unscrewing the muzzle compensator. The Gun Cleaner compound on a cotton rag made a short work of any gunk, dirt, powder lubricant residue – everything I worked so hard to collect inside the receiver. The SchleTec Gun Cleaner is said to be absolutely safe for all surfaces, does not harm metal, woodwork, plastics, rubber, neoprene or leather. One remark, though: it evaporates quite slowly, so you'd better wipe it dry real clean. The "diligent differently" like myself would rather prefer the sprayed compounds which flush out the gunk WEAPON CLEANING
