double and triple utility pouches, grenade pouches or GPS receivers and torch covers. The most distinguished independent producer of PLCE is Arktis. In their products innovative design is matched by high quality of execution. A unique system of snap fasteners on pouches' sides allows connecting all elements in a compact, stabile construction. Yokes are very similar to the Trial PLCE. The British Forces regulations enable soldiers to use non- issued equipment (although if such stuff become broken or lost, it can't be replaced in the quartermaster's store), so the assortment of civilian products compatible with issue PLCE is huge. Some products meet all requirements (like use of IRR technology, high quality of materials and so on) – they can be mixed with contract items or even instead of them in complete sets – other unfortunately just look attractive and are used by civilian amateurs of military lifestyle. FuTurE oF PLCE? What would be the role of PLCE in the future British soldier's equipment? Perhaps not crucial (as it is undoubtedly an outdated design), but I suppose that it wouldn't get completely out of use soon. This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of introduction of Trial PLCE. For 24 years of service the design of this webbing hasn't been changed significantly and was adapted by other countries, like Ireland, Lithuania and Denmark. It can be also seen in quite unexpected contexts, like worn by both sides of the Ukrainian conflict or by Kenya Wildlife Service Rangers. Classic design and versatility of PLCE, as well as its durability and resistance to the impact of external conditions (including soldiers' creativity) make it almost indestructible – as long as it is properly looked after. I therefore believe that despite passing time and putting into service more and more technologically advanced equipment, this classic webbing will be successfully utilized for a long time – if not by soldiers themselves, than certainly by enthusiasts of militaria.
