WHAT IS ALL ABOUT? A term "active members" was used not without a reason, because in order to maintain a status of the full member, one must at least once a year appear in the officially accepted costume during an event in which the legion takes part. And what is required to become a member of the organisation? You should fulfil two formal conditions. In relation to the local law one should be a major that is be at least 18 years old of age (or at least 21 years of age in the case of the Alabama residents). The second requirement is an ownership of a costume which is a faithful replica of this which appeared in one of the movies, cartoons, one of the games or books embedded in the universe of the Star Wars. The costumes must fulfil a range of the conditions which are specified in the so called Costume Reference Libraries. For instance: an empire officer must wear leather officer boots (neither combat boots nor gum officer boots are not allowed), and a shape and an number of the quilting on the Lord Vader's glove should correspond to those which are visible in the movies. These guidelines were developed by the commanders of the special subgroups of the legion described as the detachments. The detachments are the units containing owners of the similar – or the same – costumes. All kinds of the stormtroopers are associated in the First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment, and the uniformed units (not only officers, but also the members of the team or the technicians) function under the flag of the Imperial Officer Corps. Beside the mentioned before two rules there is also one more, informal – one should have a good time and get pleasure from this what we do. Every new recruit receives his own unique ID number, along the lines of those which were used by the stormtroopers in the movie. Now, there is so many members of the 501st Legion that numbers have five digits! An ID number is received for a life-time and it is valid even after a death of the legionnaire as a king of honouring his "service". Only as a result of the disciplinary action one may lose his number, but such actions practically do not happen. www.fragoutmag.com
