The Boeing Maritime Surveillance Aircraft
programme was initiated in 2010 and the
for the first time aircraft flew on 28th Fe-
bruary 2014. The world premiere of aircraft
had place during the Farnborough Air Show
Trade 2014. Test phase was finished on 9th
January 2015 and the marketing operations
were stared – during the first tour the Boeing
MSA visited the LIMA air show in Malaysia,
then Denmark and Poland.
In order to limit the project costs, fully con-
ducted at the manufacturer's own risk, most
of the components were sourced as COTS
– an perfect example is an aircraft itself, the
Bombardier Challenger 604 business jet.
uld lead to attention of customers from less
wealthy countries. In that way was born a
demonstrator aircraft of the Boeing MSA
technology which may fulfil a role of the
long-range patrol aircraft, which supports
the search and rescue missions (SAR), the
surveillance of the economic zones or sup-
port the law enforcement services in the
securing the maritime borders against the
pirates or smuggling by sea. What should
be highlighted, basing on the available infor-
mation sourced from Polish MoD – an air-
craft in the presented configuration does not
meet the requirements of the Naval Aviation
Brigade, however, nothing stands in the way
to adjust fully the serial Boeing MSA to the
required specs.
