THE EXPERIENCE An experience is not only very important when it comes find a job – during a contract one should use every occasion to gain it too It is a fact that many MARSEC operators without the military background got the job, although the flood of the market by experienced former soldiers is overwhelming, and the recruiting agencies prefer them because they have a certain experience and skills, and a ship owner feels more confident knowing that he has an experienced soldier on the deck. It also happens, but it can be referred to the several firms, that a work experience gained in the structures of the police institution is not treated equally as an experience gained in the military service – the ex-police officers do not qualify to work without completing the necessary courses. For persons who departure for their first cruise the most significant is acquiring the greater number of the recommendations from the ship captains what will help in receiving a better job and is an argument while negotiating a contract with an employer. It also may be a decisive factor when it comes to sending for a team leader course. Many which leave a service encouraged by the stories about high salaries offered during the contracts in Iraq, and also in the first years of functioning the Maritime Security industry, takes as a mockery the first remuneration proposals. Well, if they do not have ensured a sure and well paid job, and they do not present themselves an unusually high level, they rather do not get the job quickly. It is worth to consider that there are hundreds thousand (if not more) potential contractors – it said that an average waiting time for receiving a contract is several months what in the case of the Maritime Security contracts seems to be a little bit exaggerated. It is necessary to understand that work for lower rates may be an investment of own time in gaining an experience what will help with receiving contracts with other companies, so a better job and a better salary. It is good to assume own skill realistically what helps in avoiding the future disappointments. www.fragoutmag.com
