MEDIC During the fights in Normandy in 1944, the basic field outfit of US 101st Airborne Division aka "Screaming Eagles" was the M42 Jump Suit uniform and the M2 helmet with added camouflage netting with some straps of burlap for additional camouflage effect attached. The camouflaged helmet and the uniform were unique to paratroopers. The M42 just before the combat jump were additionally reinforced with canvas patches attached to the crotch, knees and elbows. Also the stabilizer straps were added to trousers which kept loaded cargo pockets in place during jump or march. In some elements of 101st Airborne Division, paratroopers commonly added custom pockets on the arms, as in the uniform pictured on the right. www.fragoutmag.com
