– connected with a ca- psule. Due to this structure one managed to design a vehicle which is lower that the similar vehicles of the other manufacturers and offers a crew a great space inside its passenger compartment, what has a direct impact on its mo- bility in harsh terrain. Simultaneously, it still provides the crew with a high ballistic protection of the hull (Level 3 of STANAG 4569 – a resistance to 7.62 mm x 51 armor-piercing ammunition) and a Level 4a mine protection (surviving blast of 10 kilograms' explosives placed directly under one of the wheels) and Level 3b (an explosive substance pressure active under any body location – up to 8 kilograms of explosives). The vehicle was also a subject to the plant tests during which it showed a resistance at the Level 4b (up to 10 kilograms of explosives placed under any body location). The Rheinmetall APMV also protects a crew against a detonation of the 100 kilograms' explosives within a distance of 5 m and located at the height of 1 m from the vehicle and it was a subject to the plant test during which was detonated 150 kilograms of explosives within the distance of 5 m. During such a tests, thanks to the wheel track, a suitably adjusted suspension and a low gravity center a vehicle does not roll over, but only shifts to its side. As a standard, the Rheinmetall APMV is also fitted with the over- pressure filtration and ventilation system, which pro- tects against the effects of the WMD, ENGINE AMPV drive system includes a military ver- sion of high-performance Steyr Motors M 16 SCI engi- ne. This unit comprises 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 2 x turbo charged, multi-fuel engine with the direct injection and a volume of 3.2 L. It generates a maximum po- wer of 272 HP at 4 000 rpm and a torque of 610 Nm at 1800 rpm. It meets the Euro III emission standards. The engine is capable of running on a variety of fuel types: from the diesel fuel, through petrol, finishing with jet fuel. The drive is transmitted with the inter- mediary of the ZF 6HP28 6-speed (to move forward and backwards) automatic transmission and an au- tomatic 2-speed distribution gear. The transmission system is equipped with the automated differential locks. The vehicle has a permanent 4x4 drivetrain sys- tem. SUSPENSION The AMPV has an independent suspen- sion, based on two wishbones. Each of them is equip- ped with the coil springs and two shock absorbers, www.fragoutmag.com
