- pay attention while getting in and getting out – it is
rather easy to hit a head against a door frame.
Driving the AMPV fitted with an automatic gear box
makes no difficulties. Certainly, it resembles rather
driving a truck than a car, but you can adapt to it very
quickly and immediately it can be forgotten that you
drive a vehicle with a weight of almost eight tones.
An engine power and a manner of the suspension ali-
gnment just encourage for off-road rides. The feeling
of speed is illusory – you can have impression that a
vehicle moves much slower than in reality. Moreover,
an instructor indicated not to turn to much with a
steering wheel while trying to overcome the uneven
"tank" road. According to driving instructor words the
AMPV was designed so that driving it engage a driver
as little as possible, do not push him to slow while
trying to omit all unevenness or taking care about
a suspension. The latter is really robust and perfectly
tuned. Certainly, while riding with a high speed on
the obstacles on the road, the crew is shaken, but in
the scope easy to be adapt to it. While rapidly driving
into the holes, a suspension "hits" to the limiters with
a characteristic sound of the hit – after completing
a ride we checked up that a limiter bends even up
to 3-4 cm. Just to let you know – these come from
Leopard 2 tanks, they must be robust!
The AMPV demonstrated in the WITPIS was in the
non-armored Patrol version and a vehicle in the
"Polish" configuration is supposed to be presented at
September.
