In fact, the CKD-1 sight is a set of two day sights delivered in single solution. It was developed by PCO as an own initiative intended for Polish Armed Forces 5.56 x 45 mm Beryl wz. 96 assault rifles which is currently used and 5.56 x 45 mm MSBS assault rifle foreseen as a main armament for TYTAN future soldier system. Technical issues A CKD-1 modular day sight consists of a 4x32 magnification LDK-4 scope which is a base of the entire set and a MK-1 micro sight assembled on it – it was ACOG-style inspired. A body of the LDK-4 sight is made of aluminum alloy. In front on the right side is located a characteristic battery box. This element of the sight was significantly changed in comparison with the older versions – a current battery socket is more regressed towards an eye-piece and does not extend any more ahead of an object-lens, as formerly. The second significant modification is an introduction of the tuning knob which is dedicated to turning it on and adjusting an illumination intensity level of cross hairs. In the old CKD-1 there were two buttons situated in the battery socket – quite bad solution when it comes to ergonomics because the buttons were slightly tactile and non-intuitive. An application of a tuning knob is a step forward in a very good direction. The reticle has a shape of the cross with constricting downwards cross-beams for relating to corrections associated with a distance – theoretically up to 600m. It is enough, even with a good margin, since hardly anyone engage targets from a 5.56 x 45 mm assault rifle at distances longer than 400 meters, and if even somebody does, it is rather shooting according to a "spray and pray" rule than a targeted fire. An appearance of the reticle can be still changed – in this matter a substantial influence will have opinions of the soldiers who test this sight, but from a technological point of view it is rather a trivial change. www.fragoutmag.com
