www.fragoutmag.com Weapons manufactured by the Florida-based Knight's Armament Company are very rare birds in Poland – you have to be invited to an SF weapons demo to see one. The civilians practically stand no chance to see them – which is a pity, because although they are all strictly speaking the lowly JAFARs (Just Another Frigging ARs), their quality can be an eye-opener to the most critics of the platform. Few products of their competition can as much as hold candle. The abbreviated name of the company is usually greeted with a smile here, as in Pol- ish "kac" (pronounced 'katz') means an alcoholic hang- over. "Mam kaca" thus means either "I've got a KAC" – or "I'm hung-over", whichever may be applicable. There were four products demonstrated, two SR-16s in 5.56 mm NATO with 11.5" and 14.5" barrels, and two SR-25 in 7.62 mm NATO, the SR-25 E2 APC with 16" and SR-25 APR with 20" barrel. The SR-25E2 Advanced Precision Carbine is a designated marksman weapon, capable of engaging targets up to 800 me- ters afar. It is an example of re-engineering of the AR-15 back into a weapon more like its predecessor, the AR-10, chambered in 7.62 x 51 mm NATO or .308 Win. The rifle is a true self-loading weapon, single-shot capable only, and uses 20-round maga- zines. There are no integral iron sights of any kind – just a long, monolithic MIL-STD-1913 top rail over the whole of the receiver and handguard, to which one can attach any optical or what- soever sights, including the mechanical (BUIS). The handguard is a free-floating octagonal URX 4 with top Picatinny rail and KeyMod interfaces on seven of its eight sides, enabling the mind-boggling variety of accessorizing. The handguards are available in four sizes: 8.5", 10", 13" and 14.5". The two-stage precision, match-grade trigger mechanism is a standard issue. The barrel concludes in a QDC suppressor-capa- ble flash-hider. The bolt carrier was designed to automatically remove the car- bon deposit from the receiver sides – thus fighting the worst deficiency of the Stoner direct impingement system. This car- rier is mated with the E2 enhanced bolt, fitted with twin ejec- tors. The rifle is 908 mm long with stock retracted and 1003 mm with stock extended, weighs in at 4.14 kg empty (no magazine or accessories). This rifle is fully ambidextrous – all controls are doubled.
