Do the Chinese frequently
counterfeit Your tools?
Yes, often. Once it has irritated me, but now it seems to
me that their presence helps us. Our tools are usually
expensive, but the Chinese ones are usually cheap.
When you see a Leatherman for 150 EUR on the
shelf and Chinese tool for 15 EUR which look almost
identically you will probably, if you have none of them,
buy a cheaper product. Only then you will realize that
goods seem to good but its manufacturing is poor
and it is worth to pay more.
Pay once, cry once?
Yes, just it.
The strangest stuff which You
repair with a tool?
Once we have looked for crabs from a small
motorboat. A ebb has begun so we has had to
collect ourselves but a motor has not launched.
We have tried to row but it has been very hard
due to strong drift. I have used a tool in order to
turn off a spark plug and then to clean it. I have
put it back and we have managed to launch the
motor so we have successfully come back to the
shore.
Has it been dangerous?
Hmmm, not very comfortable.
You have developed a perfect tool
for soldiers. Almost every soldier
in Iraq or Afghanistan has used
Leatherman tools.
Yes, we often receive letters from soldiers all
around the world in which they describe us how
cool is a tool, how often and for what they use it.
Leatherman has become just a
synonym or generic name of the
multitool. If You ask somebody for
a Leatherman and this persons
gives You his/her Gerber or
Victorinox.
We are only happy that our brand has become
something like Adidas sneakers in its category.
