GUN PORN www.fragoutmag.com FirsT impressioN: Everything in this pistol is oversized, as if designed for some giant. But then – the moment you take it into your hand – it suddenly proves a very handy gun, all the proportions suddenly shrink to fit even very average-sized hands of the testers. It looks large, but the empty weight is just 941 g. OK, that's about a full-sized Glock and a half – but on the other side, that's what Beretta 92FS weighs, or even less by a pittance. Loaded, it gets significantly different. The FNX-45, mind you, has a HUGE double-stack metal magazine holding as many as 15 rounds – and these are manly-sized .45 ACP shells, not some 9 mm tooth-picks. That's THREE more than HK Mark 23! And the .45 ACP is about twice as heavy (22 g) than the 9 mm. A full magazine for the FNX-45 adds almost 400 grams – that's heavy. The magazine bottom is covered with a huge (a versatile word for FNX-45 description, make ready to read it a lot of times in this report) plastic base, extending the (already long) grip. It really adds much to the looks of the pistol. And the good company sells you as many as THREE of these monsters with the gun – quite a lot, comparing with marketplace average. Nice of them, indeed. With the huge magazine within, the grip is substantial – but surprisingly, even the most average palm-sized of the testers never complained about the ability to have a grip on FNX-45. The upper part of the back-strap has a beavertail – not a big one, but large enough to help grip the pistol. Additionally, the back straps are exchangeable, so the shooter can find a just right circumference for his/her hand. The whole of the grip area is stippled to promote better gripping. At first impression these miniature dragon teeth seem a bit too pronounced and too sharp for comfort, but after a while this impression fades and shooting gets really comfy. If you wear gloves (and that's a martial pistol after all) the grip's texture proves to work with a gloved hand just perfect. No way for the pistol to move uncontrollably in the shooter's hand.
