You should be aware that in the case of the third-degree burn you may deal with simulta- neous presence of the first-degree burns and the second-degree burns in the vicinity of the wound. Cooling Our skin is responsible for a thermal regulation of the human body and if it is injured, its ther- mal regulation value is significantly decreased. Therefore in the first-degree and second-de- gree burns you can cool down a burn by cir- ca 20 minutes or until their symptoms reverse, and in the event of the third-degree burn – not longer than 60 seconds because in this case a thermoregulation does not function and if it is the burn with a large area, you can lead to hypothermia, that is cooling of the organism. Fire and water A burn usually is associated with a hot fluid or fire. Certainly, taking into account providing first aid in this case, all efforts should be fo- cused on restricting a high temperature con- veying into the body. If it pertains to the clothes set ablaze, you should keep in mind, that after extinguishing it, a part of the apparel can integrate with a body and an attempt to peel this "crust" away will be not only very painful, but it will also cause new, hard-to-heal wounds. In order to extinguish a burning man you should absolutely cause a change of his po- sition. A burning person usually runs in panic while trying to extinguish his burning clothes, however in reality he panics not knowing what to do, and at the same time inspiring hot gas- es which are an effect of burning clothes and increasing the flames. You must necessarily flop down such a person to the ground, using secure techniques of incapacitating, and then threw on him a piece of tarp or fire resistant fabric in order to suppress flames and restrict an air supply – essential for a combustion pro- cess. After extinguishing the burning clothes, if there are any stuck parts of clothing, you should cut off the unburnt pieces of the clothes with scissors, and leave only those integrat- ed with the body.If cool/cold water is availa- ble (the cleaner, the better), you should pour it abundantly over the burnt parts of the body until a pain is removed/decreased – although not longer than throughout 20 minutes. In this manner you stop conveying heat into the body. www.fragoutmag.com
