are some modifications needed for mounting the set – in the case of Zhukov, the standard sling attachment point must be removed. In the majority of cases, polymer handguards have the options of attaching additional accessories like vertical grips or flashlights. They differ with mounting system, which can be based on the well- known Picatinny rail or an integrated, dedicated one (for example M-Lok). Rail hand guards – dedicated for attaching accessories. They significantly increase the weight of the front part of the gun. Rail systems usually provide the option of mounting the optic sight directly on the gas tube rail cover. When choosing this solution, the shooter must be aware that more than a half of the weight of the gun is in his driving hand. This slows the shooter down a lot. Such a solution is recommended for strong men, soldiers, or law enforcement officers. The undeniable advantage of a heavy front is the stability of the rifle during rapid or full auto fire. Muzzle device This is another aspect the choice of which should be based on the rifle purpose of use. There is a variety of muzzle devices available, featuring muzzle brakes, compensators, flash hiders, suppressors, or silencers. I will focus on those that are mostly available on our market: compensator, flash suppressors, as well as those devices that include both features. When going for AK muzzle device, the case is not that simple. Take a look at the basic slant muzzle device for AKM rifle – it is mounted at a specific angle. This solution makes the extorting gases push the muzzle down and left, which counters the characteristic AK recoil caused by bolt carrier construction. A true compensator that I have used has been manufactured by the Polish company CERBER. The device significantly reduces the recoil and muzzle rise, which provides a better rifle control in follow up shots and faster target transition. However there is a tactical disadvantage of compensators. These devices lead the flow of the gases sideways. During team operations, these gases can be dangerous or at least uncomfortable for other operators around. That is why flash hiders are used for tactical purposes. They literally hide the flash and direct the gases front and up, keeping the shooters around safe. The standard slant muzzle device on AKM is a really good flash hider. It www.fragoutmag.com
