the optic in the front section, remember that the moving piston causes serious vibrations. The mount should be fixed to a stable part, like the barrel. In one of the rail sets I used on my AKs, I had a serious issue. On B&T mount, the upper rail is modularly assembled with the foregrip. There is a locking pin between them. The upper rail had like 1 mm swing around the pin. That caused optic movement, which could influence the point of impact - it could differ almost 10 cm at 100m than the aiming point. At a short distance this is not an issue at all, but go a bit further and it might be a problem. The optic mount must be fixed well. Next, there are optic mounts implemented instead of the regular rear iron sight. I personally use a Claw Gear mount . Extremely easy to install, it gave me some durability doubts at the beginning. However, after 2000+ shots it still holds zero perfectly. This type of mounts usually have an integrated iron sight. Check it after installation, as it might incorrectly adjusted. In the case of my rifle, it appeared to be adjusted correctly. The advantage is the low weight of the whole setup. The front part of the rifle remains light and suitable for quick target transition. The disadvantage is a high aiming point. This configuration needs a stock with cheek riser (mentioned earlier) for intuitional aiming process. In case of using a standard stock without the cheek part, we will lose crucial contact with rifle in the rear. Then we have the rails over the top of dust covers - integrated with a front grip or with the cover itself. Personally, I have the X47 set from TDI Arms, which is a good setup. Railed dust covers are manufactured by a series of companies including ZENIT Co. as far as I remember. There is one more way to mount the optic over the top of the dust cover - the integrated side rail available in some AK variants (AKMÅ or AK74M). This solution is the easiest way to mount the optic, but the final condition is the proper AK version. In general, mounting the optic over the top of the dust cover is the most ergonomic and comfortable. The optic window is wide and clear, the red dot sharp and easily found. Every modification has its pros and cons. Weapon personalization is an important and rewarding process. After adapting the rifle to your needs, it is good to use it for some time at the shooting range to find the perfect body balance and train the manipulation.
