The only official variant of the M1 Rifle was the M1C (M1E7) sniper rifle
with Lyman M82 (2.5x power) or Weaver M84 (2.2x power) riflescope, the
M2 flash hider and leather cheekpiece on the butt. The M1E8 (aka the
M1D) differed in having another riflescope base. The US Navy Garands
rechambered to 7.62 mm NATO were designated Rifle, Mk 2 Mod 0.
