The Territorial Defense Force (PL: Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej; WOT), as a
type of armed forces equal to the Polish Land Forces, the Polish Air Force,
the Polish Navy, and the Polish Special Forces, was officially established at
the beginning of 2017. The goal is to form over 300 units of so called "terri-
torials". The article aims to offer some insight into the history and the back-
ground of establishing WOT in Poland, as well as into the present level of
progress in the process of formation of the national regional defense forces.
