Everyone who is familiar with climbing or is a tactical gear freak, knows what the lanyard is and what's the purpose of it. At first it doesn't seem to be very complicated to make. Well, it is. Mostly because user's safety or even life depends on this piece of equipment. That is why, the retention lan- yard must be sewn from the best materials and pass a certification process that proves what load it can hold. Otherwise don't even mind taking such if you care about your own safety. ConstruCtion Let's move to the main actor. It is an "Operator Retention Lanyard with Tango and snap shackle" as it is in offer.. And it isn't a short name. Cetacea Tactical crew should have come with some more catchy name. Beside tactical gear, Cetacea has a lot of stuff for divers. Interesting fact – Cetacea is a Latin name for whale family. That should somehow explain, why they have like tons of diving gear in their offer. Cetacea Tactical ORL itself is long. Like, very long. This is the first thing that can be noticed. Without extend- ing it has about 5'11" length and extended it comes to enormous 7'2". I must tell you that I was in shock as earlier I had experience with much shorter lanyards, almost 30" before extension. That already creates a question – what kind of usage needs such length? saFetY FaCts Some facts. Metal parts are known and reputable Italian Kong brand Tango quick release carabiner and snap shackle. In soooo tactical, black.. Funny fact, is that this color version of the Frog Tango costs more than in other colors. It withstands enormous 33kN main axis load and 10kN in minor axis load. To show how much it is – 188 lbs equals 850N. The Frog Tango has two gate safety system which means that you need to push the rear gate with your palm and pull the front gate with your fingers. That prevents from accidental opening during use. Simple yet effective. Because of its construction it is very popular in via ferrata sets or adventure parks lanyards. As we know, a lot of military gear originated from the hiking one. Frog Tango has a big reputation among soldiers working with helicopters, because carabiner can be used with only one hand which is important during such actions. DesiGn Triple folded webbing was sewn to Frog carabiner and further it goes into an elastic tubular webbing. But let's take a look on the sewing. There are nine re- inforced seams in total, with additional stitching at the tubular part that holds two internal elastic. The webbing itself isn't different than those used in other lanyards - Coyote Brown with edges reinforced with black industrial thread. Same single thread goes at the middle, between those two internal elastics. At whole, unbelievable 5'11". Other end is very similar, triple folded flat webbing with nine reinforced seams. At the very end is widely known among sailors and such – a snap shackle. I also met a term of "pull shack- le" which is connected to the way it opens. It has a characteristic bent arm on a hinge that is ended with a hole in which goes a pin. The pin itself is pushed with a strong spring. Other side of pin is much thinner and has a hole with a key ring in it. Yes, regular key equipment
